So im thinking of going to hawaii this summer and i was thinking that instead of staying at hotel fr a whole week, could i just rent a timeshare for a whole week and divife the cost with friends? If not how does a timeshare exactly work?

You normally buy into a group, which allows you to use the condo for one (or two) weeks a every year (depending on how much you paid). so, basically the initial answer is NO, you cant rent it for a week, one year.
However, you can find someone who will give up their week so you can use it. Obviously, you'd have to pay them. I think Ive seen them on EBay and other sites. Or the time share group (if you know one) could also maybe put you in touch with someone.
