Visited and previewed the OKW and Saratoga Springs Timeshare units…
However,–stayed at a nearby Wyndham Resort property..a 3BR rented for only $85/nightly.
Price difference was so dramatic,and the place was out of sight.
Forgot about DVC and have continued to rent from owners there–absolutely great, grrat value at a fractuion of the cost..

as for lack of inventory DVC units–I don;t see it that way.
There are gobs of units for sale–in each of the WDW locations.

Review by for Timeshare: A Time for War (Timeshare Trilogy, 3) Rating: John Surrey is a character who doesn't like self-importance and ignorance in others, yet carries it around in himself. Whether he realizes it or not, he's rather sexist and homophobic (as are many of the characters in Dann's Time Share series). Unlike the two previous novels in the series, nothing in A TIME FOR WAR makes for such good reading that you can overlook the flaws. Mr. Dann is a good storyteller, but he mistakes old-fashioned charm for old-fashioned ignorance and this title proves that the third time is not the "charm."

Review by Joseph L Burke for Timeshare: A Time for War (Timeshare Trilogy, 3) Rating: I'm a nut for books about time-travel. My favorites are written by Jack Finney. Joshua Dann does write well but somehow he loses the excitement and nostalgia that are a part of most time-travel adventures. This is a black-and-white book in an era of technicolor books; no "oomph." Maybe it's the characters; perhaps it is the plot. All I know is that its presentation does not "grab" the reader and does not compell one to keep reading. Even trying to recall it is an effort although Jack Finney's time travel novels are crystal-clear in my mind. Dann somehow doesn't do it.

Review by for Timeshare: A Time for War (Timeshare Trilogy, 3) Rating: I can't get enough of John Surrey or Althea. I love the way the characters move through time as easily as some people change "time zones." This novel focuses on World War II and John's desire to live through the war, and not just read about it. He and Althea stay for the duration, and without giving much away, John can't sit back and let history unfold in the way he knows it will. Excellent writing, and characters. Review by for Timeshare: A Time for War (Timeshare Trilogy, 3) Rating: As the third book of the series, this is also one of the best. Time traveler John Surrey leaves 2007 and goes back to 1940 so that he can get involved with the war in Europe. He meets Ian Fleming and many others and weaves everything into a tight and fascinating book.
I did not find him to be either sexist or homophobic but, rather, he followed the feelings of both the 1940s and 2007. Are there historical flaws? Maybe a few, but they are so unimportant as to be easy to ignore. A great book in a great series (and I hope not the last of the series)

I work for a nonprofit DVARinst.com, we receive timeshares as donations. I think a timeshare is a good idea only if you are going to use it. They do have yearly taxes and maintenance fees. However prices and maintenance fees vary. A nonprofit like us, can give you a better deal on a purchase price, if we have what you are looking for in stock, but you would have to pay closing costs, and any other associated fees for the transfer, and also continue to pay tax and maintenance. When financial gurus like Dave Ramsey talk about 97% dissatisfaction rate among timeshare owners, the cons heavily outweigh the pros.

Cons
First, you pay maintenance fees every year. These maintenance fees increase steadily over time sometimes quite a bit on a yearly basis.

Second, you are responsible for special assessments on top of maintenance fees for emergency repairs and other costs not associated with maintenance. For example, because so many owners could not pay their maintenance fees, some resorts charged the ‘good’ owners an assessment to pay for the maintenance fees from the ‘bad’ ones.

You could have difficulty scheduling the use of your timeshare.

Lastly, the resales market is harsh to sellers. Timeshares are notoriously hard to get rid of. There are tens of thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of units for sale at any one time. But there are only a handful of buyers.

Pros (if you can call them that)
Timeshare resorts have condo sized rooms so that families or friends can join you on your vacation

There is usually a kitchen so that you might be able to save some money cooking yourself (but on vacation do you really want to cook?)

There are exchange programs that allow you to exchange your timeshare to another location
- There are more mandatory fees with these programs
- You might not always get what you want or need

Timeshare owners who enjoy timesharing say that its nice to go back to the same place every year and see the same people, so it’s a social thing.

Best thing to do is to rent a timeshare. Get all the benefits but none of the recurring costs.

It’s a total scam, start to finish.

People lose thousands of dollars up front, then there are all kinds of fees… and then it is *impossible* to sell.

Just *don’t* do it.
